Our Program Engagement and Achievements
Since its establishment in 2002, IMPACT Initiatives/Ethiopia (IMPACT/Ethiopia) has been at the forefront of empowering communities, strengthening local institutions, and addressing pressing health, education, and gender-related challenges across Ethiopia. Guided by our vision to see people lead a healthy, productive, and dignified life, we have touched the lives of tens of thousands through sustainable, community-driven programs.

Purpose: Enabling HAPCO coordinators to effectively mobilize, coordinate and manage local response to HIV/AIDS in their respective areas of operation.
Interventions: Provide training, monitoring, and mentorship services in:
✓ project cycle management,
✓ financial management,
✓ adolescent club formation and management,
✓ community planning and management, and
✓ HIV/AIDS mainstreaming.
Geographic coverage: 312 weredas of Tigray, Benshangul-Gumz, Amhara, Oromia, and SNNPRS
Results:
✓ 936 HAPCO coordinators received ToT; 9360 received roll-out training using the cascaded training approach
✓ More than 365,000 people benefited from this initiative

Purpose: To enable kebele level women leaders and activists to support activities of the health extension workers by providing health education and referral services for maternal health care services and address harmful customary practices affecting the health and rights of women and girls in their respective communities
Interventions: Provide training, monitoring, and mentorship services in:
✓ leadership and management,
✓ reproductive/maternal health care education methods and techniques,
✓ gender/reproductive health mainstreaming, and
✓ referral linkages
Institution/Geographic coverage: 240 grassroots women associations drawn from Oromia, SNNPRS, Afar, and Somali Regional States
Results:
✓ Enhanced the capacity of 240 women associations
✓ 720 women leaders and activists received ToT training; 7200 received roll-out training using the cascaded training approach
✓ 48250 women benefited from the initiative

Impact/Ethiopia had the responsibility of strengthening the wereda health network (WeredaNet) sub-program under the Ethiopia Network of HIV/AIDS Treatment and Care and Support (ENHAT-CS) Program jointly run by a group of local and international NGOs led by Management Sciences for Health (MSH.
Purpose: To enable participating weredas to effectively plan, manage and coordinate wereda primary health care network with focus on closed-loop referral network in their respective catchment areas.
Intervention
✓ Provided training and mentoring services to wereda and Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) workers to effectively plan, manage and coordinate wereda primary health care
network,
✓ Assist wereda and PHCU workers in joint workplan development with NGOs, CBOs, and FBOs operating in their respective catchment areas to integrate comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support activities,
✓ Assist in the development of log-books and ensure their implementation, and
✓ Assist wereda and PHCU workers to conduct periodic performance review meetings, monthly and quarterly, with various actors operating in their respective catchment areas.
Geographic coverage: Weredas and PHCUs of Amhara and Tigray Regional States
Results: 172 wereda health offices and 276 PHCUs of Amhara and Tigray Regional States benefited from the intervention

Purpose:
To engage adolescents young adults to develop healthy reproductive health attitude and behavior while at the same time engaging themselves in the rehabilitation of the natural environment through tree planting and development of area closures.
Interventions:
✓ Organize school-based and out-of-school adolescents and young adults in clubs and/or
action groups for the purpose of promoting PHE
✓ Enhancing the competence of adolescent s and young adult volunteers for the purpose of promoting PHE
✓ Assisting adolescent and young adult volunteers to actively engage in PHE education and environmental protection activities.
✓ Establishing youth- friendly services (YFSs) in the premises of health centers
Geographic coverage: Kebena Wereda of SNNPRS; Fentale Wereda of Afar Region
Results:
Over 48,250 adolescents and young adults benefited from the initiative

Purpose: To assist out-of-school children of primary-age group to complete a full course of first cycle (grades 1-4) of primary education
Intervention: Provide a one-year intensive education of grades 1-3 following curriculum of the Ministry of Education so that they can join the formal education system upon sitting for placement test to be provided by the wereda education Office.
Geographic coverage: East Shewa Zone of Oromia and Guraghe and siltie zones of SNNPRS
Results
✓ 11,600 children aged 9-14 years have passed the placement test and joined the formal education system
✓ 9,200 mothers of children attending the accelerated learning classes have been provided with basic business skill training and start-up capital and engaged in IGAs to support their children to continues with their education
